I hope the following links will be helpful to your learning throughout the coming school year. Check back regularly for updates.
Almost unlimited online literature!
This site provides literally thousands of works of literature that are part of the public domain - more than 3000 full books and over 4000 short stories and poems. The Literature Network is useful for study of many works of literature, including The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.
Canterbury Tales
Richard Brodie's Canterbury Tales Page
I find this to be one of the more user-friendly modern English translation sites for The Canterbury Tales on the web. Not only does he clearly present parallel text translations of the General Prologue and many of the significant tales, he even creates original conclusions to tale fragments, such as the Cook's Tale.
Awesome Grammar Site
University of Ottawa Writing Centre's HyperGrammar
This website features very comprehensive definitions and and examples of all things grammar, including parts of speech, parts of setences, types of sentences, punctuation, diction, and spelling.
Check it out to improve your writing, as well as your SAT/PSAT/MCAS scores!
Heroes and Villains
The Complete Writer's Guide to Heroes & Heroines
This website details sixteen heroic and sixteen villainous archtypes. Used during our study of Beowulf, this information can be directly applied to any work of literature, as Tami Cowden argues that archetypes are instinctive and not culturally-based.
Beowulf in the Original Old English
This website features the oldest poem ever recorded in the English language, Beowulf, read by Benjamin Bagby.
Shakespeare
Check out www.shakespeare-online.com to read any of Shakespeare's plays or sonnets! The site also features modern-day translations of the works, as well analysis and commentary.
Click here to listen to Othello, as performed by a professional acting troupe. Big thanks to Ms. Peritore for the link!
Anthem, Ayn Rand
These site will be useful in your study of Ayn Rand's Anthem.
